Drum Major : Ron Abelson
Ron Abelson a West Coaster started his musical career in Greymouth
playing for the Greymouth Municipal Band.
In 1979 Ron joined the New Zealand Army Band and served for 20 years
including two postings to Singapore with the 1st Royal New Zealand
Infantry
Regiment Band. He held many positions within the New Zealand Army Band
including Drum Major and Bandmaster.
On retirement from the Army Ron decided to move to Blenheim and was soon a playing member and Drum Major of the Marlborough District Brass Band and a playing member of the Royal New Zealand Air Force Base Woodbourne Band.
Ron re-enlisted into the Regular Force in 2005 as Bandmaster of the Royal New Zealand Air Force Base Woodbourne Band.
