July 2008 will go down as one of the best months in the history of the Marlborough District Brass Band. At the 2008 BBANZ National champs the band exceeded its wildest dreams in achieving 2nd place overall behind Brisbane Excelsior and first placed NZ band in the "Ä" grade. We were placed 2nd in the Hymn playing Reflections in Nature, 2nd place in the Test, Ballet for Bands, and 3rd in our own choice, Journey to the Center of the Earth. On top of that we were placed 3rd in the Street March. Exceptional results!! Also our Bass section won the 4barsrest Award for the Best Section!! Best Nationals ever!!

A Night at The Proms concerts held this weekend, (15th and 16th September), were well received by the audiences. The shows displayed some polished performances by Rikki McDonnell, Grant Myhill, Amy Beaumont, Graham Moseley, Erynne Scherf and Kevin Moseley. The audiences were treated to performances from La Chorodia and Bell Voce from the Girls College and from the Chorral Society. And in the true style of a Proms concert, Waldolf and Stadler (aka Bob Marks and Jeff Mulraney)compered the evening with much gusto.

The Nationals have finished for another year. I have to say that I thought they were well run. As usual MDBB was very well represented with several members gaining national awards and the Band showing fine form by winning the Marching competition by 4 points over Woolston. Ron Abelson was also named as Champion Drum Major for 2007, and Kathy Moseley as Champion Pianist for 2007. |

Saturday 26th May saw Kathy and Kevin Moseley along with invited guests, celebrate Kathy's 50th birthday in style. When I say in style, I mean dressed up to the theme of Kath & Kim. Check out the features page to view some of the photos.

1st Class Brass under the baton of Nicola Moynihan performed exceptionally well at the West Coast competitions on 19th and 20th August. Nicola took the award for champion conductor, Denis Teeling for Champion Drum Major and the band was placed first in the Street March, Stage March and Own Choice, and Second in the Hymn and Entertainment section. Along with these placings, our soloists excelled.

Marlborough District Brass band is a family orientated band. This is evident when you see the makeup of the players. The Moseley's, Beaumont's, Scherf's, Teeling's all have several playing members

Marlborough District Brass Band was formed in 1845 making it arguably the oldest Band in New Zealand.
Like most bands of the time, Marlborough Band began life with army affiliations, initially under the name "Blenheim Citizens Band", later "Blenheim Garrison Band" and later as the "10th Mounted Regimental Band" and the "2nd Marlborough Battalion Band".
In 1962 ties with the Army were severed, new affiliations were formed with the Blenheim Borough Council, and the Band became the "Blenheim Municipal Band".
